Wine & Glass pairing: Sparkling Wine Glasses
There are four major types of glasses for champagne and sparkling wine.
Tulip wine glass
Midalidare recommends Tulip wine glass for the following sparkling wines Thracian Lowlands, Mogilovo: Midalidare Sparkling Gold, Midalidare Sparkling Brut, Midalidare Sparkling Blanc de Blancs
The Tulip wine glass is perfect for light, fresh, dry champagnes and traditional winemaking sparklings wines. The shape emphasizes the wine’s fresh fruitiness while tempering its high acidity and bringing out its characteristic aromas. This is the ideal glass from which to enjoy typically tart, dry rosé wines.
The Tulip glass has slim base that slightly opens up to a wider bowl then narrows towards opening. Bead at base makes bubbles rise, while the wideness allows room for flavor complexities to open up. Narrower top prevents excess carbonation from escaping while directing aromas towards the tongue instead of up the nose.
Tulip glass is perfect for young or mature Champagne, Cava, Franciacorta, Prosecco, and Asti.
Flute wine glass
The classic Champagne flute is perfect for light, fresh, dry champagnes. Its slimline shape is great to encourage the bead in champagne and sparkling wine, making it the choice for those connoisseurs who are after a thin and elegant flute.
Flute wine glass has short- to medium-length stem with long, narrow, upright bowl. Bowl successfully retains the carbonation and captures the flavor. Bead at the base prompts bubbles to gather and quickly rise.
Flute wine glass is perfect for young sparkling wine or champagne, including Cava, Franciacorta, Prosecco, and Asti.
Vintage Champagne wine glass
The Champagne Wine Glass is perfect for developing and displaying mature Champagne’s complex characteristics. This glass allows the wide range of aromatics to unfold. Unlike a flute, the egg-shaped design allows the complex layers to grow and intensify, and the larger rim diameter enables them to be released in a way which is not achieved with a narrow glass. The glass also includes a ‘sparkling point’ to aid the formation of the Champagne bubbles.
Vintage Champagne wine glass is perfect for mature Franciacorta, Champagne, Koshu, Blanc de Blancs, Cava, Sekt, Sparkling Wine, Prosecco.
Coupe/Cocktail wine glass
The Coupe/Cocktail glass is the essential piece for every home bar. The sensuous curves of this glass provide an elegant piece for your favourite dirty Martini or are a modern take on the classic champagne coupe.
Coupe glass is stemmed glass with short, yet broad and shallow bowl. Reminiscent of the speakeasy era; originally used during the roaring '20s to serve bubbly dessert champagne that was made with a heavy dosage of syrup. Bowl enables wine to come in with plenty of air; less popular as a champagne or wine choice today because air exposure quickly dissipates bubbles and aromas. This glass holds a small amount of liquid and is perfect for themed events or cocktails.
Coupe glass is ideal for sweet champagne, Cava, Franciacorta, or Prosecco; is also used to serve cocktails.
